数々の英雄達に自らの肉体を狙われながらも、英雄達の力を吸収して生き続け、大きく狂った歯車の真相を目指していく主人公・セリカ。 本作では、その主人公・セリカが神殺しに至った物語の序章とも言える重要なエピソードが描かれる。 シリーズ続編という形をとっていないので、「戦女神」シリーズをプレイしたことのないユーザーでも楽しめる作品となっている。また、旧作での盟友である魔神ハイシェラが剣に封じられるまでの経緯や、「ディル＝リフィーナ」の世界といったマニアックな物語がより詳しく描かれており、プレイ済みのユーザーはより深く「戦女神」シリーズの世界を楽しむことが出来る。 戦闘システムは前作『戦女神II』のフレームバトルシステムを継承しつつ、より操作性を重視したものとなっており、その他の自由に能力値を上昇できるキャラクターの成長や召喚魔法、アイテム合成なども、さらにパワーアップしている。
