This case is eight months after the first in the series, "The Masked Illusion Case".
The story begins when Masao Ikurumi, a scenario writer, receives an invitation to participate in the beta test of a new network game, "Misty Online".

"Misty Online" is Japan's first MMOADV, a groundbreaking game in which players work together with their friends to solve crimes in a world that closely resembles a real town.

The player, Izuna Sagishima of the Kibukawa Detective Agency, participates in the beta test and takes on a fictional murder case, only to find that the player playing the role of the "corpse" who fell to his death from a great height does not respond at all...
