Evidence pointed squarely at Karel Egel, the local nobleman’s son. He was well known for his unusual preferences, thus the cops came to him first but he himself maintained, “I don’t remember a thing.” Without a solid confession or proof, being a noble he could evade conviction even if guilty. “Isn’t this just way too cruel to those dead poor girls?” Stuck on that thought, Karel decided to gather evidence to prove his own guilt as well as plan his next steps.
